I stayed up last night trying to come up with something to write about the Pens and Habs game. Originally I was going to write about how teams that lose the Stanley Cup often play in a game seven at some point in the playoffs.
A list of reasons the Pens would win? Nah, too cliché.
Then I was going to create a list of reasons that the Penguins would lose… mainly to point out how stupid some of them are: Canadians played the first game at Mellon Arena, they’ll play the last too! Really? Nobody playing tonight was even alive when they played that game.
I can cite stats until I’m blue in the face, but none of it matters. It’s all about the now.
The past means nothing. Records, seeds, and home ice mean nothing.
A hot goalie means a great deal, but we don’t know yet which team will have one. It could be both.
This game is as evenly divided as people were over last night’s episode of Lost.
There is one thing that almost everyone agrees on: It’s going to fun to watch. Enjoy it hockey fans, this is what the playoffs are all about.
